Octane + 1600SW

Hi.

I'm planning to buy a used Octane. What I'm still wondering is that if
I'll also get a 1600SW (which could be nice), do I have a chance to
connect it to the Octane straightly, ie. is there OpenLDI -including
graphics adapter to work with Octane. Or am I shooting myself to a
mistake, which leades to Multilink (which would mean
Octane-13W3-VGA-Multilink-OpenLDI-1600SW - which is lot of adapters)?

My understanding is that the 1600SW only works well with the O2 not the
Octane2.

Best Regards,
Jason

Depends with what graphics card you're trying to display...

Although, if the OP doesn't care much about having an all-sgi setup, I'd
invest in a nice 23" LCD instead of an sgi 1600 and an MLA...

Certainly. But I've got the impression that there's no OpenLDI -GFX for
Octane(2), which certainly should be the best choice.

All-SGI -setup is what I'd want, but if it demands the MLA and multiple
DA/AD -conversions, I'll stay with my non-SGI CRT, at least for now.

What graphics card do you have in your Octane2? ***@60Hz (or 50Hz)
is what you'd need...

Take a look here:

It would involve several cables for sure, unless you can find a DVI-13W3
to go into the MLA...

I don't have any yet. I'm thinking of getting one, so I thought I'll ask
before I buy something that's incompatible.

And yes, I know the specs of 1600SW. I just don't see any sense in D/A/D
-conversion. If I'm having a digital display (LCD), I want all-digital
signal. What I've understood is that there's no digital signal output
(DVI or OpenLDI) available for Octane/Octane2, which is a loss.

Fuel would be cool, no doubt. But they're still expensive. O2 might also
be an option (if I found one) - AFAIK there's OpenLDI extensions for O2
available.

I could always make one, yes, but that doesn't remove D/A/D -conversion
(I assume you ment 13W3 -> DVI-I/DVI-A). Or is there digital output
through 13W3?

There is a DCD option for Octane 2 if you find one, dual DCD actually...

The Fuel link was just to show you the possible resolutions of the VPro
graphics option (clearly showing for instance that V6 won't be able to
handle 1600x1024 at all)
