Hello,

I have two O2 workstations : one with a R10K and the other with a R5000.
The R5000 is working well but the R10K is not.

I was wondering if it could be possible to switch the mainboard between
these two machines and get the R10K working.

I read on the Net that it was not as easy as switching the processor
modules. That's ok, the housings and PCI extensions are not the same.
But what about the motherboard ? Are the IP32 motherboard running R10K
different from the IP32 running R5000 ?

Thanks for your help

Regards

Not so different that it won't work, but you do need to be careful how
you do
it since sometimes there are slight differences in, for example, the
size of the
screw threads used to hold some of the chassis bolts in place where all
the
sockets are on the back. In one cases I had to widen the R10K-type
chassis
holes slightly so that the bolts for the R5K board could go through ok,
but
it did work fine, upgraded an R5K/200 to R12K/400. I also swapped over
the sysid module between the two different PCI trays to maintain access
to original licensed sw (Maya in the case of the unit I was working
from,
for a TV studio in Poland).

Cheers! :)

Ian.
