Sad day for an O2

Well, this is one of the saddest days I've had in a while. I was looking
into buying some extra O2 RAM, and pulled out the system board to see
how many extra RAM slots I had left.

I put back the unit and tried to power up, nothing!!!! Not even an LED.

I remembered something about the power cable, but was distracted by my
daughter, then pulled out the system board with the power cable
connected. I realised as soon as I did it what I did wrong, but by then
it was too late.

Without an LED, to me it seems most likely that I've blown a power
supply. Or, have I damaged the system board?

the system board itself, not the power supply.

Bummer.

Actually I did once pull the system board with the power on (and cable
connected of course :) and it still worked after that... Actually it
rebooted "bling bling bling bling" when I plugged the board in, that's how
I realized what I did :)

both possible - certain versions of O2 system boards behaved that way.

Others are said not to do... no great thing if the O2 was switched off,
that has happened to me at least a dozen times without any damage.

Be sure to really reseat the module - the lever alone doesn´t do so,
you might have to firmly press manually due to the spring force of
the EMI shielding at enclosure level. To much for el-cheapo plastic.

Sometimes a single millimeter makes the go/no-go difference for the O2.

Good luck!
