Hi

Did someone have troubles with the SGI 1600SW flat panel? I have got
one , which I tried to connect to an O2 with Flat Panel Adapter.
Unfortunatelly, the screen is still just BLANK BLACK, and just LED in
the front of the panel is flashing orange.

I have also tried 2 different Power Supplies with apropriate power for
it (I dont have the original SGI PSU for it) but it is probably not
PSU problem, because the 1600SW LED indicator is blinking. I Dont
know.

The FPA in O2 is I think installed well. It is detected in HINV and
when I connect another monitor to VGA output it is changed to
1600x1024 resolution.

But the screen is just blank, like it is not getting signal, or
something.

Please havent you seen some schematics or hits for this problem?

Thank you very much for help

Have a nice day.

Cheers

Are you interfacing with a Droid Scalar unit? If the LED is red and/or
blinking on the adapter then I think I know what could be the problem. I
would recommend contacting SGI service for a possible return for repair
or exchange. I have seen many of these blow a transistor internally and
cause the same problem you see.

what is it a Droid Scalar unit?
I dont know what should it mean. I am using an O2 with an adapter for
1600SW monitor in it. But the screen on the monitor still stays black
- and just the LED is blining orange - it should mean something like
no signal, or so - it is the same, as when I dont connect the 1600SW
monitor to the O2.
But the O2s FPA adapter seems to work. You mean that there is some
transistor blown in 1600SW monitor ???
I dont understand
thanks

The 'FPA Adapter' is likely the Droid Scalar. It has two connectors on
it, one DVI and the mating connector for the 1600SW. It also has some
buttons on top and an indicator light. If that light is red then it
indicates a likely issue with the adapter. I have seen many of these
fail. I have also seen a 1600SW with an internally blown power
transistor cause a problem where the 1600SW would power up briefly and
then shut down with the flashing indicator like you state. But The
adapter is more likely the cause. You can either send that back to SGI
for repair or replacement or you can buy a video card that interfaces
directly with the 1600SW (http://www.icir.org/hodson/1600sw/gfx1600sw.html).

No, maybe, we dont understand each other :-)

Mine FPA adapter is a optional plug-in board inside my SGI O2. There
is just ONE connector on it - for the 1600SW monitor. nothing else (no
LED, no buttons - it is a "video card" that interfaces directly to
1600SW).
Dont you mean the SGI MLA ? a little box to convert DIV/VGA signal to
1600SW openLDS ???

But I think, this is not a problem of adapter. But probably the
problem of 1600SW :-(
As I said. When I turn the 1600SW on, it stays black and only thing it
does it that the front LED on it bliks orange.

My 1600SW show the same symptom. Screen is blank, LED is
flashing orange. I have tried it on both an VW320 and an O2 with
the correct FPA adapter.
Both my computers work with another 1600SW so it can't be
them.

I'm also interested if anyone know how to fix this problem. I'll
even try some soldering if that is what i t takes :-)
